Of Scottish and Latin origin, Callum is a boy’s name that is popular throughout the Celtic Nations. Callum derives from Colomba, meaning “dove”, which is the Latin name of Colmcille. Colmcille was an Irish abbot who spread Christianity to present-day Scotland and founded the abbey on Iona and became one of Ireland’s three patron saints thereafter. Much like its Latin equivalent, Callum means “dove.” Doves were important symbols to early Christians, as they stood for peace and the Holy Spirit.
