Yoshinobu is a Japanese name for boys that can be used as both a given name and surname. Depending on how the kanji characters are written, it takes on a few different meanings, such as “justice,” “believe,” “extend,” “excellent,” “good,” “respectful,” “virtuous,” or “skilled.” Most famously associated with Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the 15th and the last military commander of Japan, another noteworthy personality is Yoshinbou Oyakawa, an Olympian who still holds the world record for straight arm-pull backstroke.
