Obadiah

Eluding a noble charm, Obadiah is a Hebrew masculine name with far humbler roots. Deriving from the elements ‘avad, meaning “to serve,” and yah, meaning “God,” Obadiah means "servant of God" and is a name shared by several biblical figures. One such Obadiah is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible’s Book of Kings. A wealthy man, Obadiah expended his riches, feeding a hundred prophets he had hidden to save from persecution. It was an act of service that left him in debt but earned him a most priceless gift, that of prophecy.
