Nash

Nash is a topographical boy’s of English origin. It comes from the Middle English phrase atten ash, which means “at/by the ash tree,” a meaning that Nash shares. Because of this, Nash is a common British habitational given and surname. In the British Isles, ash trees were also known for their healing properties, while in Ireland, they are the most common tree to grow by holy wells, as they are said to purify water. Most intriguing of all, however, is the role that the ash tree plays in Norse mythology. According to Norse cosmology, the sacred World Tree, Yggdrasil, is an immense ash. Its leaves reach up to heaven, its boughs cover the earth, and its roots extend down to the Underworld, making it a powerful symbol of long life and the interconnectedness of the cosmos.
