This California Mom Just Welcomed Twins Born in Different Years

They may be twins, but Aylin and Alfredo Trujillo were born on different days, in different months and in different years.

Fatima Madrigal, a new mom from Greenfield, California, gave birth to a baby boy, Alfredo Antonio Trujillo, at 11:45 pm on Saturday, December 31, 2021. His twin sister, Aylin Yolanda Trujillo, was born 15 minutes later, on Sunday, January 1, 2022. According to a press release from Natividad Medical Center, where the twins were born, Aylin was the first baby born in Monterey County in 2022. Aylin weighed 5 pounds and 14 ounces at the time of birth, while Alfredo weighed 6 pounds and one ounce.

“It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” mom Fatima Madrigal said in the release. “I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.” Aylin and Alfredo join two older sisters and an older brother. Madrigal added that her oldest son is looking forward to having a little brother.

According to Natividad Medical Center and some experts, the chances of having twins born in different years could be as rare as one in 2 million. “This was definitely one of the most memorable deliveries of my career,” Dr. Ana Abril Arias, a family doctor at Natividad Medical Group, also said in the release. “It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022. What an amazing way to start the New Year!”
