Tia Mowry Proves Breastfeeding Troubles Don’t Always Repeat With Baby No. 2
Breastfeeding comes with its fair share of challenges, and sometimes it just doesn’t work out. But don’t forget: Your nursing experience can change from baby to baby. TV personality and Sister, Sister alum Tia Mowry is reminding moms everywhere that just because you weren’t able to breastfeed your firstborn doesn’t mean the same will be true with baby number two.
In a recent Instagram post, Mowry shared a selfie of her holding her 6-week-old daughter, celebrating her substantial milk supply—something she didn’t have the first time around.
“Boobs glorious boobs,” she writes. “Feeling pretty good! Wasn’t able to breastfeed Cree for long because of low milk supply! However, this time around I have plenty.”
Hooray for Mowry! And hooray for the important message she’s sharing—because it’s actually not uncommon for moms to have a hard time breastfeeding their first child and a much easier time with subsequent kids. Sometimes it’s simply because you didn’t have enough information to be as successful the first time. Other times, it’s because one baby struggles more with latching than another. There are dozens of factors that can affect your breastfeeding experience.
As for Mowry, she says she owes her breastfeeding success to drinking lots of teas and water and eating a healthy diet that’s high in protein and fenugreek, a plant that’s been used for centuries to increase milk supply in breastfeeding mothers.
“More importantly, say no to stress!!” she adds. “I’m able to pump 12 ounces alone in the morning for my little brown suga!”
Her post—which has 457,000 likes and counting—has really resonated with moms.
“Great info here prima @tiamowry,” one follower writes. “You’re the best!!!”
“Congrats!” a second fan says. “Fenugreek is the best!! I nursed for 3 1/2 years. You go mama!!”
