New Reality Show Asks ‘What Parenting Style Is Best?’
From gentle parenting to helicopter parenting and everything in between, there are few things more hotly contested than parenting styles.
In the age of social media, how you raise your children has become public discourse, with commenters chiming in to give their advice whether you asked for it or not. In an effort to finally put an end to Facebook bickering and the Twitter threads, one show is asking, “What parenting style really is best?”
The Parent Test debuted on ABC and Hulu on December 15 and takes a deep look into the parenting styles of 12 American families. The show intermingles footage from each family’s home with a sit-down panel where moderators ask the parents about their values, reasoning behind decisions and opinions on other parenting styles.
While the show is in the pursuit of identifying “What parenting style is best”, The Parent Test prides itself on fostering open dialogue between parents around their beliefs and why they parent the way they do rather than condemn or praise any particular style.
“The families are put through various situations to foster conversations about how each unit operates. Host Ali Wentworth and parenting expert Dr. Adolph Brown moderate these impassioned conversations amongst parents who may have conflicting opinions on how to raise their families, but they all share the common goal of raising happy, healthy children,” the YouTube trailer description states.
With a conversation-starting premise and a host of diverse families, parents seem excited to check out The Parent Test. “Such an important conversation,” added one commenter, while several others chimed with, “Can’t wait!”
If you, too, are excited to tune into the action, you can stream The Parent Test on Hulu now.
