There’s a Sesame Street Musical Headed to the Big Screen
The first Sesame Street movie of this century is headed our way. The film will be a live-action musical and feature Portlandia director Jonathan Krisel, Variety reports.
While we’ve seen our fair share of Muppet movies, the last true Sesame Street film to hit theaters was Elmo in Grouchland back in 1999. Shawn Levy was previously tapped to produce the upcoming film, where he began working on the project in 2012. The move was put on pause after 20th Century Fox held the rights, but with a director in place, it looks like the beloved franchise may really be coming to life in theaters in the near future.
Not much else is known about the anticipated movie, including a storyline. Many speculate the film may carry a more “grown-up” air to it after the influence of the Portlandia director, but for now it’s all heresay.
