Bert and Ernie Share How They Met in Spoof ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ Music Video
As far as dynamic duos go, Bert and Ernie have everyone beat. Celebrating the pair’s long-standing friendship, Sesame Street released a parody music video to the tune of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s theme song—and it’s so adorable, you and your kids will be watching it on repeat.
The video opens up with a nod to Will Smith’s hit 1990s sitcom, showing Bert and Ernie wearing caps flipped up and abruptly spinning around in their throne-like chairs. The pair is surrounded by graffiti illustrations, including rubber duckies and smiley faces. From there, the muppets take us on a fun adventure telling us all about the origin of their friendship.
There are a ton of moments in the video that add a silly spin on the retro television series. While Will Smith was notorious for giving his aunt and uncle a run for their money, Bert is seen trying to clean graffiti off the wall and receiving a thumbs up of approval from a police officer.
And when Bert leaves the comfort of his home and heads on over to 1-2-3 stoop, his mom gives him the best advice, telling him to “keep your head up, be kind, and you’ll find your way!”
Oscar the Grouch also makes a cameo appearance, and soon after, Bert meets Ernie. The adorable muppets bond over Bert’s paperclip collection and Rubber Duckie, the unofficial third roommate.
In no time, the two become “one half of a whole” and “one part of a pair.”
The rest, as they say, is history.
