This Couple Kept Pregnancy a Secret to Surprise Family With Baby

If you can’t imagine getting through pregnancy without a small army of family and friends to complain to and consult for advice, well, you’re in the majority. That’s what makes one couple’s surprise baby announcement so impressive. Fair warning: The video of their baby’s debut is also incredibly emotional.

Ben and Hannah Hinders, who live in Hawaii, hadn’t seen their Florida-based family in 10 months—and Hannah’s pregnancy just so happened to fall within nine of those 10. Rather than announce they were expecting at the standard 12-week mark, or at any point of Hannah’s pregnancy, for that matter, the couple decided to wait until they were home for the holidays to debut their daughter, Ivy, in person.

It was worth the wait.

Each of Ivy’s introductions to family and friends was recorded by Hannah and Ben, who compiled them into a tear-jerking video. Everyone was in disbelief. Many assumed they adopted Ivy. Some even wondered if they were just babysitting.

One of the few who was able to form words right away, this guy nailed the general initial reaction: “You guys had a kid and didn’t tell anybody? That’s your kid?”
