Rihanna Didn’t Expect This Part of Postpartum Hair Loss
From raging hormones to a recovering body, there’s plenty you might expect during your postpartum period, but some things can still sneak up on you. One of those things—postpartum hair loss.
In a recent interview at the launch of her Fenty Hair line, mom of two and candid queen Rihanna opened up about her unexpected experience with postpartum hair loss. "I didn’t expect it to happen in waves. I thought it would just happen and grow back,” she told Refinery 29. “But it went from this spot to that spot and then to another spot. At that point, you’re just like, ‘Alright, enough is enough.’”
The Grammy-award winner noted that this side effect was “not on the pamphlet” for what to expect postpartum, but she has since learned to embrace it. “That actually just made me get a little more creative and clever with my hair styles,” she added.
Moms from around the world chimed in on the now-viral video, praising Rihanna for sharing her all-too-relatable story. “Rihanna is so relatable and she embraces her natural body through every stage of her life. It’s remarkable to see. I love it,” wrote one user. “I was waiting for this conversation!” added another parent. “This is so important to share. We need to discuss such things related to pregnancy and postpartum. Women deserve to know what body changes they’ll face, how to prepare for them (if possible), and how to find support. Inspiring!” wrote another.
Later at the event, Rihanna talked about her motivation for launching the Fenty Hair. “Evolving as a woman and even as an artist, hair has been such a huge part of that and a reflection of whatever I’m feeling,” she said. “So, it changes a lot, and my hair goes through a lot. Making this brand, I had to consider all of those things. I want to look fly, but I want my hair to be healthy. How do I do that? All of my products need to strengthen and repair while I’m out just being fabulous.”
