Rihanna on the Challenges of Finding Your Style Again Postpartum
Finding your style again postpartum can take time. From rediscovering what feels good to adjusting to a new body and a new day-to-day routine, many moms find it’s a gradual journey—and not always the easiest.
In a recent interview for Harper’s Bazaar’s “The Legacy” issue, beauty mogul, fashion icon, and mom of two, Rihanna, opened up about her own struggles with postpartum style. “I feel like getting dressed is a fight on its own [now],” Rihanna explains. “Everything is so … logical. What makes sense? What’s easy? What’s fast? I try not to overthink all that stuff, but you’re leaving the house. It kind of stops you from going out," she told the outlet."How much energy do I have to put into getting ready? Doing my makeup, doing my hair, and then going to the closet and figuring out which three things in this entire room make sense together? You go through a fog. And fashion is so much fun, and I miss the fun.”
Rihanna acknowledges that she’s “starting to have fun again” when it comes to getting dressed. “Now I’m starting to just remember what I loved about it: the juxtaposition, putting the things together that don’t make sense. My fashion has always been driven by my mood, and my mood was on mom mode for a minute,” she added. Like everything else post-baby, it’s been a journey, though.
“I don’t even remember what I was like without kids," she told Refinery29 when asked if she’s started to feel like herself again after birth. “And so I don’t even know if that matters anymore. I feel like I’m trying to get to a place where the balance of my new reality feels good.”
A reminder that what worked before may no longer serve us in a new phase of life, the Diamonds singer is all about embracing change while keeping your confidence in motherhood.“When you become a mom, your style goes from like ‘blah’ to ‘let’s see what fits’ to ‘I’m gonna be a bad bitch today.’ You’ve got to remind yourself a little bit sometimes, you know, bad bitch is still in there somewhere,” she told Extra at the launch of her Fenty Beauty Soft’lit Foundation last year. “You wanna be comfortable because you’re moving around so much and then it’s whatever fits.”
