Rachel McAdams Has Never Looked More Fierce Than in This Photo Shoot Pumping Breast Milk
Although Rachel McAdams only recently broke silence on her “secret” pregnancy and birth of her firstborn, the actress is turning heads in a new photo shoot for the magazine Girls. Girls. Girls. The starlet puts a stunning twist on traditional high-end fashion, where her Versace and BVLGARI diamonds take a back seat to the breast pump the new mom is sporting.
“A million reasons why I wanted to post this picture,” explains the photographer, Claire Rothstein. “Obviously Rachel McAdams looks incredible and was quite literally the dream to work with, but also this shoot was about six months post her giving birth to her son, so between shots, she was expressing/pumping as still breastfeeding.”
That’s when the pair had an “aha!” moment. Though they argue over whose genius idea it was to capture this empowering moment—they both give credit to the other, of course—the two were both on board for photographing McAdams in the most natural state a new mom can be in.
“Breastfeeding is the most normal thing in the world, and I can’t for the life of me imagine why or how it is ever frowned upon or scared of,” Rothstein notes. “I don’t even think it needs explaining, but just wanted to put this out there, as if it even changes one person’s perception of something so natural, so normal, so amazing—then that’s great”
There’s no denying the impact of the photo. It’s almost impossible not to look at the actress as a superhero, where pumping breast milk is her incredible super power.
That said, Rothstein, a mom herself, wants to stress you don’t have to be draped in expensive diamonds and fierce makeup to be a supermom.
“I did not look anywhere near as fabulous as this when feeding/pumping, and that’s okay too,” she says.
This has been the year of merging moms-to-be with high-fashion looks. Back in September, Victoria’s Secret model Lily Aldridge sported a baby bump on the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) runway. Plus, no one can forget when model Slick Woods closed NYFW while strutting across the catwalk nine months pregnant, and then went into labor backstage.
Please note: The Bump and the materials and information it contains are not intended to, and do not constitute, medical or other health advice or diagnosis and should not be used as such. You should always consult with a qualified physician or health professional about your specific circumstances.
