Professor Holds Mom’s Sick Baby So She Can Take Her Exam

Parents wear a lot of different hats. “Mom” and “student” are just a couple of categories Katie Lewis falls under. Sometimes, all aspects of her life are vying for attention, and it’s nearly impossible to please them all. Luckily, a kindhearted professor helped her get out of a recent pinch.

“There are teachers that will shake their head at you for working while going to nursing school and switch plans at the last second because they don’t value your time or commitments, and then there are teachers like Dr. George that will hold your sick baby when you can’t get a last-minute sitter so that you can take a test,” Natalie Norman, another student in the class, writes on Facebook.

Lewis is a hard worker. The 22-year-old single mom is in level 4 of nursing school and on track to graduate with her degree in May, she tells Good Morning America. Unlike some professors, Dr. George will go above and beyond to ensure her students succeed. “She has always told us not to miss a test and to call her if we get in a bind,” Norman tells GMA.

But one afternoon when Lewis had a test to take, her babysitter was unavailable, her mom was working and her dad was out of town. She felt like she hit a dead end. Giving it a shot, she took her professor up on her offer and reached out to see if she could bring her with her. Not only was the professor more than okay with Lewis bringing her daughter in, but she even offered to hold her for the entire exam.

That’s the kind of support parents need in their life. Not too long ago, another professor went viral for doing the same act of kindness for a student in his class.
