In an unbelievable segment yesterday on Canadian outlet Global News , meteorologist Kristi Gordon spoke out about hateful letters she’s received from viewers who apparently are not fans of her pregnancy.
“Nowhere on North America TV have we seen a weather reader so gross as you,” read one letter. Other letters slammed Gordon’s wardrobe: “Buy some decent clothes and have some respect for your unborn child.” Another added that “looser tops would look more professional.” Of course the letters didn’t have names or return addresses.
Gordon and her two co-hosts reacted to the letters with disgust, but not surprise — when Gordon announced her pregnancy back in January, she actually asked that viewers go easy on her. “It’s not easy to find work clothes when your belly’s out to there,” she explained during the segment, gesturing to her growing stomach. Unfortunately, some viewers just didn’t listen.
“I feel like I’m a pretty confident person,” Gordon said, but admitted that the comments still got to her on some level. After receiving the letters, she found herself examining her body in the mirror and asking her husband if she had really gotten that big. “When you say something mean about someone, it still affects them.”
Sports anchor Squire Barnes kept his reaction short and sweet: “Haters gonna hate.” Barnes and co-host Robin Stickley summed up their feelings (and ours!) by crumpling up the letters on-air.
