Here's the Halloween Candy to Stock Up on Based on Where You Live
In the excitement to nail your family’s Halloween costume, you may forget all about stocking up on candy for trick-or-treaters. Fast-forward to you running to the supermarket the night before and grabbing whatever candy you see first…
Before you swipe your card for any ol’ candy corns, take a look at this year’s Halloween candy map from CandyStore.com, which breaks down the most popular Halloween sweet treats based on its sales in each state.
Nationwide, the top five candies seem pretty on par, with Skittles, M&Ms, Snickers, Reese’s Cup and Starburst rounding out the list, respectively. Skittles was selected as the No. 1 candy in four states (California, Hawaii, Pennsylvania and South Carolina), and made it to a handful of states’ top three.
The top five picks nationwide seem pretty predictable—who doesn’t love chocolatey goodness and bursts of sweet flavor?—but less “mainstream” candies also hold coveted spots on the map. Sweets like Salt Water Taffy and Hot Tamales are among two of the most popular confectioneries in a handful of states, including Indiana, New York, South Carolina and Washington.
The National Retail Federation estimates about $2.6 billion will be spent on trick-or-treating candy this year, so we may as well buy the candy crowd pleasers. Plus, take your Halloween game up a notch by trying out these spooktacular treats.
