Dad Curates Oyster Feast for Wife’s First Meal After Giving Birth
For many parents-to-be, pregnancy comes with food restrictions, and favorite indulgences like sushi and raw oysters are temporarily off the menu. One of the most anticipated moments after giving birth is finally enjoying those forbidden foods.
That was certainly the case for Rachel Sullivan, who craved oysters throughout her pregnancy but had to wait until after the birth of her second baby, Rosie, to satisfy that craving. Her husband, Tom Sullivan, TikTok creator behind @mealssheeats, made sure her first postpartum meal was unforgettable.
In a now-viral video, Tom hires a friend, “Boss-man Jason,” to serve an extravagant oyster feast right at Rachel’s hospital bedside. Understandably, Rachel gets emotional as Jason presents an array of accompaniments, from cucumber salsa verde to a grapefruit ginger mignonette (which Jason notes is a great source of Vitamin C after birth), along with hot sauce. Jason then shucks oysters fresh by hand, placing them on ice. “I’m so happy,” Rachel says, tearing up with an oyster in hand. “I’m so emotional. It’s so good.” Tom cheekily captioned the video, "I don’t know if she was more emotional over meeting our baby or eating the oysters.”
The video’s comment section was filled with love and appreciation for Tom’s thoughtful gesture. “She’s probably crying because she feels SEEN. Y’all made her feel KNOWN,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “The fact that the friend Googled what a postpartum woman needs after labor is the sweetest thing.” Someone else chimed in, “The first meal after birth should be like this for everyone. Whatever you want delivered right to your room.”
