More Than 600,000 Cans of Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Formula Recalled
Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition, the maker of Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder, has issued a voluntary recall of 675,030 cans due to possible contamination of Cronobacter sakazakii.
According to the recall notice issued by the Food and Drug Administration exported Nutramigen produced in the Zeeland, Michigan facility, tested initially tested positive for cronobacter on December 14. While upon initial investigation, the FDA has not found cronobacter at the facility, the investigation is still ongoing.
Cronobacter is the same bacteria that was at the center of Abbott Nutrition’s factory shutdown in February of 2022. The bacteria can cause rare but life-threatening infections in newborns.
The FDA and Reckitt/Mead Johnson assure parents that no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall, and it is likely most of the product that was distributed in the U.S. has already been consumed. Out of an abundance of caution, the FDA asks caregivers to discard any affected batches.
You can find step-by-step details on how to tell if you have an affected can within the FDA’s recall notice. Parents with affected cans can reach out to Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition for a refund by calling 866-534-9986 or by emailing consumer.relations@rb.com.
