What You Need to Know About the Nuna Rava Car Seat Recall
Nuna has issued a voluntary recall of more than 600,000 of its RAVA car seats. Here’s what you need to know.
Why are the Nuna RAVA car seats being recalled?
Nuna has issued a recall for its RAVA car seats due to a problem with the harness system. The issue involves the harness failing to tighten properly, which could put a child at risk in the event of a car accident. According to Nuna, the problem happens when debris—like crumbs, dirt, or other small particles—gets into the area around the front harness adjuster button. The debris can prevent the adjuster mechanism from clamping onto the strap, causing the harness to loosen. As Nuna explains, “A loose harness may not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.”
While no injuries have yet been reported in connection with the recalled car seats, parents have filed complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “My husband and I were driving today and we noticed my daughter kept getting out of her seat,” one parent reported. “Once we got home, on further investigation, we determined the issue to be a faulty, self-ratcheting system.”
How do I know if my product is affected by the recall?
The recall affects any Nuna RAVA car seat purchased between July 16, 2016, and October 25, 2023, online and at different children’s retailers. You can check to see if your car seat is a part of the recall on the Nuna recall website. The recall encompasses RAVA car seats with a plastic harness adjuster button, which are of a different design from models that have fabric covering the harness adjuster area.
What should I do if I have a recalled Nuna RAVA car seat?
Nuna maintains that those with recalled RAVA car seats can continue to use their seat as long as the harness is properly securing baby. Parents can check harness performance by pushing on the seat back with one hand and pulling the harness straps firmly with the other. The harness should stay locked and not lengthen when performing this test. If it does lengthen, parents should immediately stop using the car seat and wait for a repair kit.
Parents can fill out a form on the Nuna RAVA recall website to receive a free repair kit, including a new seat pad, cleaning kit and care instructions to ensure the car seat’s harness adjuster is kept clean and working properly.
