Pittsburgh Hospital Dresses Newborns as Grasshoppers for Sweet Reason
Leap Days only come every four years, so it’s natural to want to have some fun and celebrate, and one hospital in Pittsburgh did just that in honor of February 29.
UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital celebrated the day by dressing up newborns in the most adorable grasshopper hats, hand-made by UPMC nurse, Caitlin Pechin.
The nursery event, which took place last week, aimed to spread love and lasting friendship, and special guests Anne Sutton and Alec Trab also donated 150 I Love You Like books to new parents at the hospital. The book, which Traub co-authored with his closest friend and Anne’s late husband, Scott, after he was diagnosed with cancer, is dedicated to Scott’s young son. It tells the story of a young grasshopper who constantly interrupts his work-bound dad by asking “How much do you love me?”
Dressing up newborns as tiny grasshoppers as they “leap” into March seemed like the perfect occasion to highlight the sweet story. This also isn’t the first time, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital has celebrated a calendar event by dressing up newborns in adorable knit costumes. You might remember them for making headlines around the holidays last year for dressing up babies in handmade, knit Baby Yoda costumes.
