Kids’ Art Scores Big League, Big Screen Debut Thanks to New York Mets
Whether your child is a budding Picasso or more of a color-outside-the-lines type, chances are your home is filled with their artwork. But while most masterpieces end up on the fridge, the New York Mets are taking kids’ creativity to the next level—by putting it on the jumbotron.
As part of the Mets’ Kids Opening Day, the team gave its traditional lineup headshots a charming twist. Instead of standard photos, hand-drawn portraits of players—created Mets Kids Club members—flashed across the screen as each batter stepped up to the plate. The result? A stadium full of laughs, cheers and plenty of “awws.”
One standout sketch of Juan Soto, captioned “We got Soto nini nini boo boo,” hilariously captured the excitement around the Mets’ acquisition of the star player. A bright, bold drawing of Francisco Lindor paid homage to his ever-changing hair colors, while Shea’s rendering of Starling Marte—complete with his signature Mickey Mouse chain—was pitch-perfect. Even the contrast between rotund and scrawny depictions of José Siri and Luke Senger drew giggles from the crowd.
The best part? We haven’t seen the last of these adorable drawings. The Mets will continue to collect submissions from members of the Mets Kids Club presented by Dunkin’ all season long for Family Sundays. “This season, we’re turning every Sunday home day game into Family Day,” said Trisha Donlin, Mets Vice President of Brand Marketing. “Featuring artwork from Kids Club members is just one of the ways we’re engaging fans.”
Each Family Sunday will also include pre-game entertainment on Mets Plaza, family-friendly activities throughout the ballpark and fan favorites like kids running the bases. Plus, the Mets are offering a special ticket package—four tickets starting at $50—for all Sunday home day games during the regular season.
