Joe Biden Is First President to Welcome Great-Grandchild in Office
A first great-grandbaby has arrived!
Naomi Biden, the daughter of Hunter Biden and oldest granddaughter of President Joe Biden, and her husband Peter Neal announced the arrival of their baby boy on January 8. “We are proud to introduce you to our great-grandson: William Brannon Neal, IV,” Dr. Jill Biden captioned a photo of her and her husband with their first great-grandchild. The couple’s newborn shares a name with Neal’s brother, who was killed in 2009 by a distracted driver.
Biden is believed to be the first president to welcome a great-grandchild while in office. At a press conference the president celebrated his new status as a great-grandpa noting that it was a day to remember. “What a wonderful time for the Biden family and for White House history for President and Dr. Biden to welcome a great grandchild. Four generations of the Biden family living during this presidency is very special,” Stewart McLaurin, White House Historical Association president said in a statement to The Hill.
Naomi Biden first shared that she was expecting on November 5. “(We) voted," Biden captioned an Instagram story showing her bump in a black turtleneck with an ‘I voted’ sticker on top. The couple’s new addition will make President Joe Biden a great-grandfather for the first time.
The 30-year-old Columbia Law School graduate and international arbitration associate married her husband Peter Neal, a fellow law graduate, on November 19, 2022, in a historic ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House—the first wedding of a presidential grandchild at the White House.
Our congratulations to the growing Biden family!
