Mom Infuriated After Finding Pieces of Metal in Her Daughter's Gummy Vitamins
Vitamins are a great source of nutrients for growing kids. But Kansas mom Samantha Andersen is encouraging others to take a closer look at those supplements after finding pieces of metal in her daughter’s Zarbee’s Naturals gummy vitamins.
The shocking discovery was made after the mom dumped the vitamins out to separate the ones that were stuck together, FOX4 reports. That’s when Andersen noticed the tiny shavings that looked like pieces of metal. As you can expect, the mother couldn’t believe her eyes. She and her husband decided to grab a magnet to see if the pieces stuck to it, “and sure enough the magnet picked them right up," Andersen tells FOX4.
Outraged by the hidden dangers lurking in her child’s daily vitamins, she took to Facebook to share her shocking discovery with others.
“There’s 55 servings in a bottle and she’s had about 50, so who knows how many metal flakes she ingested,” the mom says.
And after their pediatrician informed them to go to the ER immediately for X-rays, they discovered “sharp metal flakes in her intestines.” Now, Andersen is left to watch Milani, her daughter, for signs of a bloody stool and a fever outbreak.
Adding insult to injury, after the mom contacted Zarbee’s, the representative apologized and then offered to send coupons to the house.
Since the incident occurred, Andersen has been hard at work researching how this incident could have even happened.
“Food is mass produced these days, and metal machines will break apart. And I guess pieces will fall into the production line, but there’s supposed to be tools or people in place to catch those things,” she tells FOX4.
According to FOX4, the FDA is aware of the situation and is currently investigating the complaint. For now, Andersen is spreading the word and encouraging parents to check their kids’ containers.
