Mom Delivers Baby in Krispy Kreme Parking Lot During Alabama Snowstorm
January 2025 is off to a chilly start, and last week’s arctic blast brought snow to parts of America that hadn’t seen a dusting in decades. While snowfall in Alabama is rare enough to make headlines, a baby born in a Krispy Kreme parking lot during the historic storm? That’s the kind of story that takes the cake—or, in this case, the donut.
On January 22, during the rare winter storm that blanketed southern Alabama with five inches of snow, expectant mom Sha’nya Bennett was at home marveling at the icy phenomenon with her 5-year-old son when her contractions began to pick up.
Sha’nya and her partner, Keon Mitchell, didn’t waste time. They loaded their kids into the car and carefully navigated the snow-covered roads toward Flowers Hospital while on the phone with 911. But as the snow piled up and the roads grew icier, baby Dallas decided he was done waiting.
“I felt my baby’s head while we were at the red light,” Sha’nya told WTVY News 4. With 911 on the line and no time to spare, the family pulled into the parking lot of a closed Krispy Kreme in Dothan, just a mile from their destination.
“Once we got to the Krispy Kreme parking lot, I couldn’t stop pushing,” Sha’nya shared. “I saw him sliding out, and I’m like, ‘Come grab him, come grab him!’” Keon, overwhelmed but determined, delivered their son safely before paramedics arrived. “I don’t know how I stayed calm because I was really scared,” he admitted.
Despite the chaos, Dallas arrived safely and was soon taken to the hospital, weighing in at 5 pounds, 14 ounces. Reflecting on the experience, Sha’nya called it “one to remember” and shared that she “felt like superwoman.”
But the story doesn’t end there. After hearing about the extraordinary delivery, Krispy Kreme’s management sweetened the moment by offering the family free donuts for a year and pledging to host Dallas’ first birthday party in 2026—a fitting celebration for his unforgettable arrival.
