Why Over 83,000 Cases of Kraft Singles Have Been Recalled
Whether you are hosting a family cookout with cheeseburgers or cooking up a quick grilled cheese for your picky eater, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve used Kraft Singles in the past. But before you add a slice to your next meal, it might be worth a second look after the American cheese staple was recalled due to choking and gagging hazards. Here’s what you need to know.
Why are Kraft Singles being recalled?
Kraft Heinz issued a voluntary recall of 83,800 cases of individually wrapped Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices on September 19 after several complaints of consumers choking or gagging on thin pieces of plastic leftover on the cheese slices.
The errant plastic sprung from a “temporary issue developed on one of our wrapping machines, making it possible that a thin strip of the individual film may remain on the slice after the wrapper has been removed,” Kraft Heinz acknowledged in a press release. “If the film sticks to the slice and is not removed, it could be unpleasant and potentially cause a gagging or choking hazard.”
So far, Kraft has received six complaints of consumers choking or gagging on the individual cheese slices. No other injuries or serious health issues have been reported.
