Keke Palmer Reminds Us That Moms Can Rock Any Outfit
Accepting and embracing your postpartum body isn’t always easy. Amid all the growing pains and changes, it can sometimes be difficult to find an outfit you feel good in. The last thing you need to hear at that moment is someone telling you what you can and cannot wear. Luckily for us, Keke Palmer is once again leading the way when it comes to embracing her “mom bod” and dealing with the haters with grace and positivity.
A Twitter thread recently went viral after the new mom posted a video to the platform having a fun night out at an Usher concert. Dressed in a black bodysuit with a sheer black midi dress overlay with square detailing, the pop artists swayed together while singing along in front of the crowd. While Palmer looked to be having a wonderful time, not everyone seemed to be as happy with the video, notably, Palmer’s boyfriend Darius Jackson replied to the thread with the comment, “It’s the outfit tho…you a mom.”
Users from all over quickly flocked to the comments to fire back at Jackson for his comment. “Don’t date a baddie if you’re gonna be this insecure,” one fan tweeted, while another added, "So- she’s a new mom?? And? She looks SO great and is having a great time and not even doing too much.” Others defended Jackson’s comments but noted this could’ve been addressed beyond closed doors.
Palmer herself hasn’t directly responded to the drama but proudly posted photos of her posing in her night-out fit. “I wish I had taken more pictures but we were running late,” she wrote in the caption. “It’s giving mother, icon, free woman and we love you, AND support you,” wrote one fan in the comments. “Glowing!!! Hottest mama,” wrote another commenter.
Just five months out from the birth of her son Leodis Andrellton Jackson Palmer has been unabashed in her celebration of her postpartum body. In a post made in April, Palmer humorously thanks her baby boy for all he has given her.
“Last time I talked to y’all. I was letting y’all know that my son cleared my skin up. My skin is still skinning. And now I’m about to let y’all know that he gave me something else,” she said before panning to her postpartum curves. “B-b-b-body! Get into it, get into it. 'Cause period, period, period, period, period, period,” she proudly exclaimed, captioning the video “Hips? NEVER HAD EM’! Boobs? Never had em’! Booty? BARELY. Thanks son.”
Palmer’s candid moments of celebration serve as a reminder that postpartum bodies are beautiful and there’s no set standard of what a “mom” should look like. While it’s natural to struggle with body image after giving birth, it’s important to remember that these changes are a testament to the incredible journey of motherhood.
