Actress Karen Gillan Welcomes Baby Girl
There’s a new addition to the galaxy!
Guardians of The Galaxy and Doctor Who star Karen Gillan has given birth to her first child with husband Nick Kocher. Gillan shared her new arrival with the world on January 2. “2024 thank you for giving us Clementine,” she captioned an Instagram carousel of images featuring her newborn, husband and time spent working the past year. “Also, as per the last slide - I shot a film called ‘Let’s Have Kids’ right as I got preggo in real life, so take that Daniel Day Lewis,” she added jokingly.
Some fans in the comments speculated that Gillan’s choice of Clementine might be a nod to her daughter’s red hair or a callback to the cult-favorite show Lost. Regardless of the inspiration, the fun, fruity name has undeniably grown in popularity over the past few decades, climbing from relative obscurity to ranking among the top 500 most popular names for girls today. Of French origin, this feminine counterpart to Clément traditionally means “merciful,” “gentle,” or “mild.”
The Scottish actress and filmmaker first debuted her baby bump in September 2024. Appearing on the red carpet at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival in a citrus lemon dress. Gillan playful teased the debut of her new project ‘The Life Of Chuck’ alongside an ‘untitled baby.’
The actress and Saturday Night Live comedy writer secretly tied the knot at Castle Toward in Scotland in May 2022. During a 2023 appearance on Live With Kelly and Mark,, Gillan revealed that she met her husband through social media, saying that the “algorithm” brought them together after seeing him via Instagram’s recommended friends list. “I DMed him on Twitter saying, ‘Hi, your tweets are really funny. I’m Karen, by the way,’” she said. “It wasn’t very interesting. I hadn’t really read his tweets.”
Our congratulations to Gillan and Kocher on their new addition.
