This Is the Name the Real Co-Host Jeannie Mai Jenkins Gave Her Newborn
The Real co-host Jeannie Mai Jenkins and her husband Jeezy announced last week they had welcomed their first child together. Now, the couple is sharing the name they chose for their newborn and the significance behind it.
Jenkins revealed the name and baby’s nursery in a new video posted to her YouTube channel, Hello Hunnay, on January 20. While she affectionately calls baby Baby J, she explains that the theme for the nursery comes from baby’s actual name, which is Monaco. “I thought Baby J’s name should be a J name because obviously Jeannie and Jeezy—makes sense—but that wasn’t the name that came to us," she says. “What really came to us was how baby J came to fruition for us when we were dating.”
Jenkins continues to explain that Monaco, France was one of the first places the couple traveled to together and where they established what was happening within their relationship. “That’s really the theme of the nursery is what Monaco is about,” she continues to say in her video. “Family, moments, traveling, discussions, important key points in my life and Jeezy’s life that brought Monaco here.”
During the video tour, Jenkins shows off the gender-neutral nursery, as well as the wall art that displays Monaco’s name.
Jenkins also revealed the name as Monaco Mai Jenkins during the January 20th episode of The Real, People reports, explaining they will reveal baby’s sex later.
The Couple’s Pregnancy and Birth Announcements
Jenkins took to Instagram on Tuesday, January 11, to share the happy news that she and Jeezy had welcomed baby. “I asked God for a life of love and happiness. He sent me my family,” she wrote, alongside a sweet photo of a baby blanket and nametag. “Baby Jenkins is here 🍼❤️.”
Jenkins first shared her pregnancy news on Monday, September 20 during an interview with Women’s Health. “Jeezy and I have been kind of saving this and hiding this for five months," she said. “So, we’re relieved to finally share the news.”
She also opened up about her fertility journey. Though Jenkins initially didn’t want kids, she had a change of heart while engaged to Jeezy, who is already a dad to two. “Falling in love with Jeezy made me see life differently for myself. Our love is honest, pure, and safe…something I hadn’t felt as a child,” she said at the time.
Jenkins shared that the couple’s pregnancy journey has not been an easy one and the couple decided to try IVF. “We both needed a bit of assistance, especially with me being 41 at the time,” she shared.
She found out she was pregnant a month before their March 2021 wedding but sadly suffered a miscarriage soon after. "I wondered if I was being punished. I wondered if I’d jinxed myself or cursed myself. My entire life, I never wanted children. When I say never, I’m talking a hard-stop never,” she told the outlet.
The journey has been an emotional one so far, but Jenkins is excited to have Jeezy by her side. “Being a mom is hands down the hardest role in the entire world. Now that we’re bringing another Jenkins into the picture. I have no idea what to expect,” she said, adding, “[Jeezy’s] an amazing dad. [It] overwhelms me with even more love."
