‘Dads Don’t Babysit:’ Isaac Rochell’s Candid TikTok Goes Viral
Being a parent is a tough job, and with the high expectations placed on caregivers today, having an equal partner can make all the difference between burning out and being able to enjoy a weekend away. Unfortunately, studies show that things aren’t always equal and often Moms end up carrying the majority of the mental load and default parenting responsibilities.
Addressing this imbalance, NFL free agent Isaac Rochell, a new father and husband to TikTok star Allison Kuch, recently shared a now-viral video outlining the practical ways dads can ensure they’re pulling their weight when it comes to taking care of their little ones.
“Dads, when you’re taking care of your kid, can you leave your girl alone? You can handle it on your own. She’s kind of tired of hearing from you, and here’s why: because you’re babysitting. You don’t babysit. You’re just being a dad,” Rochell begins.
The former pro-defensive end continues on for those confused if they are team babysitter dad or just team dad dad. “Things a babysitter asks” ‘How many ounces do they need?’ You should already know that. Figure it out. ‘How long do they nap for?’ How do you not know how long they nap for? Figure it out. ‘Can you tell me where the onesies are at?’ Leave her alone. She doesn’t want to talk to you. She’s trying to relax,” he emphasizes. “And do not ask this question: ‘When are you coming home?’ Fellas, if your girl leaves the house, you’re taking care of the baby. Give her some time to breathe.”
So what is on the “dad dad” section of the whiteboard? What does a dad ask when they’re alone with baby? “It’s blank,” Rochell adamantly says. “We’re not doing this anymore. Dads don’t babysit. We’re just dads.”
Below in the comments, parents chimed in with their appreciation for Rochell’s desire to be equal partners with his wife. “This is so needed! My father-in-law to this day brags about how he didn’t change ONE single diaper. Very thankful my husband is the exact opposite. This generation of dads rules,” wrote one user. “Left for 5 days and didn’t get one call with questions. Just cute picture updates with the biggest smiles,” added another. “Can your videos be required as part of the birthing classes,” joked one parent.
