Parents Receive Backlash After 'Invisible Kid' Prank Leaves Daughter in Tears
If you scroll through your social media feed lately, there’s a very good chance you’ve seen the “invisible prank,” the latest viral challenge taking the internet by storm. The joke is inspired by Netflix’s new reality show Magic for Humans, and convinces someone they are invisible.
Holly and Aaron Aldridge decided to get in on the action, playing the trick on their daughter Ava. It starts out as light-hearted fun, with the girl even letting out a few laughs, but soon takes a turn for the worse. After the couple and their older daughter trick Ava into thinking she is actually invisible, the little girl panics and starts sobbing.
The charade goes on for about a minute before the couple lets their kid know it’s only a joke.
“Invisible Kid Challenge accepted…BTW we’re officially the worst parents in the world… it was all Aaron’s idea, and just to let everyone know, she is the biggest prankster in our house and this was the ultimate comeback,” the mother explains on her Facebook post. “She is doing perfectly fine! This needs to be on The Ellen DeGeneres Show though! “
The video has been shared more than 1,000 times and racked up a ton of comments, many from parents who think the couple went too far.
“Aww, was funny at first but kept joke going a bit too long. Watching the poor kid stress out broke my heart,” says one comment.
“This was absolutely not funny. I cried with that little girl. You could have given her trauma. Go ahead and call me dramatic. It should have ended way sooner, she was freaking out. How did this not break your heart just watching,” asks another.
“I don’t think this is ok at all,” a user simply states.
“I would have had to tell her I could see her after she said, ‘mommy I’m right here.’ She was bawling. Poor girl,” reads another note.
While many have expressed their disapproval for the prank, there are also handful who have rushed to the parents’ defense.
“It’s a joke. Her mom stated in the comments that she was laughing about it after. You can take your judgemental comments somewhere else,” says one user.
“I thought it was great. I’m sure all these people are perfect parents and haven’t done anything wrong… ever,” another comment reads.
As with this video, the public is pretty split in opinions when it comes to the invisible prank. We can expect it to remain a heated topic until the next viral challenege makes the rounds.
