Maternity Photo Shoot at IKEA Captures the Nesting Phase of Pregnancy
Nine months is a long time to plan for baby’s arrival. In that 40-week span, you’ll do lots of planning and prepping for your little one’s arrival. And you know everything people say about that instinct to nest? It couldn’t be any more true. Nesting—that urge transform your house into baby’s home—was the inspiration behind one couple’s maternity photos. And what better place to set the stage than inside an IKEA?
Robyn and Jacob Finch are a husband and wife photography dream team. When former clients, Rachel and Daniel Morales, whose wedding they photographed, came to them with exciting news of a baby on the way, the Finches put their thinking caps on determined to help set the stage for an unforgettable maternity photo shoot.
“The Morales’ loved the idea of doing something very unique for their maternity photos. We thought and thought, and finally one day saw a pregnant mother walking through a store, excitingly picking out cute little outfits, and rubbing her belly. We like to think that she was pondering about the new journey she was taking and we knew at that moment that we needed to find a cool store to do the shoot in. We considered many different places, until landing on the IKEA idea,” the Finches exclusively tell The Bump.
The soon-to-be parents were on board with the plan, and had fun going from set to set inside IKEA. “They just started to play,” Robyn recalls. “We didn’t think much about the shoot or the poses, we just wandered through the store and told Rachel and Daniel to just jump into any room that stuck out to them…Jacob and I would back off and just start capturing all the natural moments that were unfolding in front of us."
The expectant parents even brought some of their own mementos to add a special touch to the photos. “They brought a bag full of little items that made this shoot really personal and even more fun,” Robyn says. “They brought the ‘mom and dad’ coffee mugs that we used in their in-home baby announcement shoot earlier in the year, the little stuffed animals and books were carefully chosen out of baby’s nursery and brought along. We even snuck in a little framed ultrasound photo!”
And although all of the photos are special to the Moraleses and the Finches, there’s one that stands out the most. “One we all loved was the silhouette in the store window. We really wanted to ensure that we grabbed a ‘traditional’ maternity photo along the way, and when we saw the curtain section we knew that would be our traditional photo spot for sure,” Robyn explains.
