Happy Birthday Loser: Mom Shares Hilarious Fail for Toddler’s Birthday Cake
Missouri mom Melin Jones was multitasking her way through the day to get everything done for her daughter’s birthday party the following day. Next on her list was a cake. She stopped by a bakery and told them to write “Happy Birthday Lizard” on it. “Lizard” is the nickname the family has for the birthday girl, Elizabeth. It wasn’t until after all her errands were done when she pulled up in front of her house that the mom saw the birthday cake mishap. Sprawled across the dessert in red writing read the words “Happy Birthday Loser.”
“At first I was a little shocked and speechless, but quickly started dying laughing,” the mom shares in a now viral Facebook post. In the post, Jones shares how the hilarious fail, which happened last September, came to be. Needless to say, the family will be laughing about it for years to come.
“We hadn’t ordered a cake or anything days ahead like one should/would normally, so I swung by the bakery and picked out one that was already made, and asked the lady behind the counter if she would write ‘Happy Birthday Lizard,’” Melin recounts. Without giving it a second glance, she took the cake and headed for home. “Remember, I’m in a hurry here, as it’s the day before her birthday party and I’m just now picking the cake out and getting everything else. Little did I know, life lessons were about to be had!”
Although a wave of panic likely coursed through her when she initially saw what was written on the cake, it didn’t take long for her to find the humor in the situation. After laughing up a storm, she quickly snapped a picture of her daughter and the cake to send to her husband. Needless to say, she would be making another trip to the store. “My husband and I laughed about it together when he got home, enjoyed every bit of the loser cake—eat up, Mom of the Year! You deserve it!—and later that evening I made another trip to Wal-Mart for another cake for her party.”
They never told Little Lizard what was on the cake, and were sure to snap another picture with her second one too. “This is a funny story, it’s okay to laugh,” the mom says. “I promise you, my now almost 3-year-old didn’t have a clue what happened. She’ll go on to live a somewhat normal life…as long as someone else starts picking out her birthday cakes.”
