Gypsy Rose Blanchard Welcomes Her First Child
Gypsy Rose Blanchard is officially a mom!
The Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup star and her boyfriend, Ken Urker, shared the exciting news on New Year’s Day. “Welcoming 2025 with the greatest gift of all,” Urker captioned an Instagram photo of himself, Blanchard, and their newborn in the hospital. The couple welcomed their daughter on December 28—the one-year anniversary of Blanchard’s release from prison—a representative for Blanchard told People.
The new mom previously revealed her daughter’s name as Aurora Raina Urker. Inspired by the central character in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, Aurora is a Latin name meaning “dawn,” and also pays homage to the aurora borealis. Raina likewise is of Latin origin typically meaning “queen.”
Blanchard announced she was having a girl in August. “The moment y’all have been waiting for… It’s a girl,” Blanchard announced on Instagram. “Ken and I are over the moon and so excited to start our family. We’re incredibly grateful to our friends, neighbors, and families who celebrated with us today! Thank you all for your love and support!”
Like many gender reveals, the event had its share of surprises. Blanchard and her husband Ken Urker planned for a balloon to pop and confetti to shoot off simultaneously. However, the balloon’s playful swaying meant it took a few tries before it finally burst, unveiling a cascade of pink confetti.
Blanchard first shared her exciting baby news on her YouTube channel on July 9. “I’m happy to announce that I am 11 weeks pregnant,” she said. “Ken and I are expecting our very first child come January of 2025. This was not planned at all, it was completely unexpected, but we’re both very excited to take on this new journey of parenthood.”
In the video, Blanchard also addressed concerns from her followers that the pregnancy may be coming too soon or that she may not be ready in the wake of her tumultuous past. “I don’t know if anyone’s really ready to be a mother. All the things that I wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby,” she said tearfully, “I am a mother now, I am happy, and I just want to be a good mother for my child. I want to be everything my mother wasn’t.”
Blanchard made headlines and gained popularity over the past year due to her tragic backstory and her newfound search for freedom. After enduring years of alleged painful medical abuse as a Munchausen by proxy victim, Blanchard played a role in the 2015 killing of her mother, Dee Dee, and was sentenced to seven years in prison. Since her release in December 2023, she has been exploring the world sharing her journey with her sizable social following.
So far Blanchard says her pregnancy has been “a breeze as far as symptoms.” Mood swings and tiredness have been her two biggest symptoms but she notes that otherwise she’s “been blessed not to have major morning sickness.”
Blanchard met Urker through a pen pal program in prison and the two had a off and on relationship up until her release. Blanchard married Ryan Scott Anderson in 2022, filed for divorce in April and later that month got back together with Urker. The two have been together since.
