Goldfish Crackers Recalled Due to Salmonella Scare
Several flavors of Goldfish crackers, beloved by hungry toddlers and desperate parents alike, are being voluntarily recalled by Pepperidge Farm after the company received a warning from one of their ingredient suppliers about a possible salmonella contamination.
While no illnesses have been reported, Pepperidge Farm is exercising “an abundance of caution,” it says, after learning of the potential presence of salmonella in the whey powder that’s used in the seasoning of the following flavors:
- Flavor Blasted Xtra Cheddar
- Flavor Blasted Sour Cream & Onion
- Goldfish Baked with Whole Grain Xtra Cheddar
- Goldfish Mix Xtra Cheddar + Pretzel
The packaging of the recalled Goldfish flavors varies, so if you want to be totally sure your Goldfish crackers are safe, check the product code against this list of crackers on the recall list.
If you have one of the recalled varieties, pitch the crackers immediately or return them to the store where you bought them for a refund. If you have questions, you can call customer service at 800-679-1791.
Pepperidge Farm isn’t the only company pulling items due to the potentially contaminated whey powder; some Ritz products were also voluntarily recalled a few days earlier.
If you have any of the following products with expiration dates of January 14, 2019 to April 13, 2019, they should also be discarded or returned for a refund:
- Ritz Bits Cheese
- Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches
- Ritz Bacon Cracker Sandwiches with Cheese
- Ritz Whole Wheat Cracker Sandwiches with White Cheddar Cheese
- Ritz Everything Cracker Sandwiches with Cream Cheese
- Mixed Cookie
