Lucas’s parents submitted his photo to the 2018 Gerber Baby contest on a whim. The Dalton, GA, couple never expected he’d actually be selected from over 140,000 entries. His big win makes him the Gerber “spokesbaby” for a full year, and mom and dad are hoping that means big things for the special needs community.
Lucas Warren, 18 months, has Down syndrome. This marks a first for the Gerber Baby photo submission contest, which is in its eighth year.
“This is such a proud moment for us as parents knowing that Lucas has a platform to spread joy, not only to those he interacts with every day, but to people all over the country,” says Lucas’s mom, Cortney Warren, in a press release. “We hope this opportunity sheds light on the special needs community and educates people that with acceptance and support, individuals with special needs have the potential to change the world—just like our Lucas!”
Wondering what the role of spokesbaby entails? Lucas’s photo will be shared across Gerber’s social media channels. He’ll also receive $50,000, which his parents plan to put towards his education.
