This List of Potential Godparents for Baby Archie Just Got Shorter
After months filled with different theories about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s child, we finally have some answers. On Monday, the family announced the arrival of their baby boy, and on Wednesday they made their first appearance together and then revealed they named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Now there’s just one more thing fans are waiting on pins and needles to find out—who the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will choose as godparents for their newborn.
There’s been a lot of chatter that George Clooney, who’s close with the Sussexes, and his wife Amal, are top contenders for the coveted title. But, according to Clooney, it’s all talk and nothing more. “Everybody loves their rumors,” he tells Extra. “It’s not true. You don’t want me to be a godparent of anybody.”
Ironically enough, the actor and filmmaker also shares a birthday with the royal newborn. While Monday was the official end to the nationwide #SussexStandby, it also marked the now 58-year-old’s birthday. “It’s kind of irritating, if you think about it,” Clooney jokes to Extra about sharing his birthday with baby Archie. “I’ve already had to split it with Orson Welles, Sigmund Freud and now this comes in. I’m moving down the line very quickly.”
While the Clooneys may be out of the running, other famous pairs still up for speculation include Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian, or even Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas.
