Gabrielle Union and Her Daughter Bring It in Iconic Cheer Costumes
Matching mommy and me outfits are adorable all year round. But Gabrielle Union stepped it up a notch this past weekend by recreating an iconic cheer moment with her 11-month-old daughter, Kaavia James.
In the photos, posted to both Union’s and Kaavia’s Instagram accounts (the latter is managed by Union and husband Dwyane Wade), the mother-daughter duo are dressed in matching green Clovers cheerleading costumes—you may remember them from Union’s 2000 movie, Bring It On. The pair also wore matching white sneakers and gold bows to complete the look.
Shortly after her initial post, Union also posted a video combining her famous “Brr, it’s cold in here” routine from the film with her and Kaavia’s recreation of them. “Ice Ice Ice…It’s COLD asf,” Union captioned the Instagram post. It’s hard to tell what’s better: Isis doing her thing or Kaavia demanding her mom’s attention, clapping once Union picks her up.
The posts, which coincided with Union’s birthday, are getting a lot of love from followers, with over one million views and thousands of comments. One person wrote, “Mommy and me goals,” while another commented, “You win costume of the year!!! Love it! Cuteness overload.” Many others also noted that Union looks just like she did almost 20 years ago. “How do you still look the same,” one person stated, while another echoed, “Literally look the same #blackgirlmagic.”
This isn’t Kaavia’s first rodeo as a cheerleader. Last month, during a trip to her hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, Union posted an Instagram of Kaavia wearing the same uniform, with the caption, “Bring it! Thank you @runzarestaurants for @kaaviajames Runza Clovers outfit to kick off her very 1st visit to #Nebraska.”
Whether Kaavia will dress up as a cheerleader for Halloween remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: Union and Kaavia certainly brought it with their costume, and fans are here for it.
