Faces of Fertility Empowers Women to Share Their Stories of Struggle
Joanna Griffiths is honoring Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day with the launch of Faces of Fertility, a campaign which tells real stories about women’s experiences with loss during their pregnancy journeys.
The founder of knix, a brand which sells bras and underwear with functional details, started the movement by launching a support portal on knix’s website. In addition to recounting Griffiths’s experience with miscarriage, the site will tell other stories of struggle as well as offer resources to help women overcome their grief. It’s all an attempt to end the taboo surrounding infant and pregnancy loss.
The founder started the conversation by sharing her own personal story of suffering. She explains how cruel it felt to have to cope with a miscarriage on Mother’s Day, and how she faced a sadness that “goes beyond explanation.”
It was in this moment Griffiths realized how important it was for her, and the many other women who silently carry similar stories of grief, to share their experience with others.
“They say that pain can change you, and in that moment I was changed. I finally woke up to the fact that the topic of fertility affects almost every woman, and yet is rarely talked about. So for the past six months I’ve been channeling that pain into something bigger, and starting today, we are going to talk,” she explains.
In honor of the campaign’s launch, knix partnered with Inkbox to create a custom tattoo for people to wear to help wipe away the stigma. From now until Oct. 31, knix will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the tattoo to Fertility Matters Canada in Canada and Resolve in the US. Additionally, for every story shared with the #FacesofFertility hashtag, knix will donate $1 to Resolve and Fertility Matters Canada.
