This New Jersey Sandwich Shop Replaces Bread With Giant Pickles
It’s a pickle-lover’s paradise at one New Jersey sandwich shop. By ditching bread and replacing it with giant, juicy pickles, Elsie’s has completely reinvented the sandwich scene.
Serving up the same family pickle recipe for years, Elsie’s uses fresh ingredients “peppered with more than a little love.” The favorite lunch spot caters to gluten free diets (hence the sandwiches sans bread), and offers a variety of sandwiches and roll ups made with one of Elsie’s Signature Pickles. As it boasts on its Facebook page, Elsie’s is “kind of a big dill.”
The giant kosher pickle is cut in half and filled with a selection of deli meats, cheeses and toppings. Pregnant mamas can indulge in their share of pickle sandwiches by simply skipping the beef, ham or salami, and swapping it for one of the vegetarian options. Indulge in hummus and sliced cucumbers sandwiched between a pickle, or a delicious falafel combination. Mmm, hungry yet?
Perhaps you prefer your pickle to be thinly sliced. Sounds like the roll ups will satisfy your cravings. The tiny, bite-sized selection is presented like a sushi roll with six pieces, but instead of being wrapped in rice, the contents are secured by a slice of a pickle.
Elsie’s isn’t the first eatery to get creative with its use of pickles. This pizza shop that tops slices with pickles is every pregnant women’s dream, and pickle ice pops are sure to add a twist to any afternoon BBQ.
