Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick Gives His New Baby Boy Iconic Gaelic Name
Ed Westwick is officially a dad!
The Gossip Girl alum announced the arrival of his first child with wife Amy Jackson Westwick on March 25. “Welcome to the world, baby boy. Oscar Alexander Westwick,” the couple captioned a series of sweet photos showing their new family of three enjoying time on a farm, their newborn son wrapped snugly in a blanket embroidered with his name.
Oscar is a traditionally masculine name rooted in Irish culture and folklore. Derived from the Gaelic elements os, meaning “deer,” and car, meaning “loving,” Oscar appears in the Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology as one of its greatest warriors. The name is often interpreted as “God spear,” “deer-lover,” or “champion warrior” simultaneously strong, gentle and friendly. Paired with the middle name Alexander—meaning “man’s defender" and "warrior”—baby Westwick is stepping into the world with a name full of power and presence.
Westwick first shared that he and Jackson were expecting on October 31. The dashing duo shared a captionless photo carousel featuring Jackson in a simple silk maxi dress that showed off her bump, with Westwick dressed in a white tee and black pants looking adoringly on.
In the comments, friends and fans sent their congratulations to the parents-to-be. “Oh my goodness - what a joy! Biggest congratulations, over the moon for you all!! Biggest love,” wrote model and actress Daisy Lowe. “Cannot wait for baby Jackson-Westwick! This is so beautiful,” added a fan. “Congratulations, Mr & Mrs Westwick, lovely news,” chimed in Cricket boutique co-founder Justine Mills. Kelly Rutherford, who played Lily van der Woodsen in the series, also sent her love with three heart emojis.
Jackson has a 4-year-old son, Andreas, from a previous relationship who is “really looking forward to” having a sibling. The happy couple were introduced to each other by a mutual friend at an Aston Martin racing event in 2021 and made their relationship public on Instagram in June 2022. Westwick proposed to Jackson in January 2024, and the two said “I do” in a small civil ceremony in London on August 9, 2024, before hosting another celebration in Italy later that month.
