TMI: Kristen Bell Says Dax Shepard Nursed Her Mastitis Away
Short of taking antibiotics, there are several things you can try to help relieve mastitis, a painful condition typically caused by a clogged duct or infection. But Kristen Bell’s strategy probably isn’t one we’d recommend.
In the latest episode of her new web series “Momsplaining,” Bell recounts one of her three experiences with mastitis. The first line of defense against the condition is nursing your way through it, but Bell’s daughter was already weaned. Another line of defense involves seeing your doctor, but she says she was too far from home. Desperate times called for desperate measures.
“The third time I had it, I was in Atlanta and we couldn’t call a doctor, and this was right after the baby stopped nursing," Bell says. “So I said to my husband, ‘I’m gonna need you to suck this out. We could talk about it, we could be weird about it, or you can just go ahead and nurse.’”
It happened.
“He had a cup next to him. He was pulling out and spitting into this cup. And I’ve never been more in love in my life,” Bell says.
Disclaimer: You do NOT have to attempt this if you find yourself similarly desperate for mastitis relief. There are even devices, like the LaVie Lactation Massger, intended specifically to unclog ducts and prevent new clogs from forming.
