Photo of Dad and Daughter Playing in Front of Notre Dame Hours Before Fire Goes Viral
Earlier this week, the world watched in shock as a devastating fire broke out in Paris’ iconic Notre Dame Cathedral. Thankfully, the structure of the 859-year old cathedral was saved along with some of the artifacts, but irreplaceable historical treasures were ultimately lost.
Brooke Windsor says she was outside of the site about an hour before flames engulfed the cathedral. In one of the photos she took, she unintentionally captured a sweet moment between what appears to be a dad and his daughter. In the picture, the two are holding hands as the man lifts the airborn girl. Windsor snapped the picture at 5:57 local time on Monday. At 6:20 p.m., a fire alarm rang out, interrupting mass and evacuating people from the building. “I almost went up to the dad and asked if he wanted it. Now I wish I had,” she says sharing the photo.”
But she’s not giving up her search for the twosome without a fight, and she’s hoping the Internet will give her a hand. “Twitter if you have any magic, help him find this.” Stepping up to the plate, the note has already been retweeted by users more than 480,000 times.
As of an April 16 update, she still hasn’t been able to track down the pair in the photo, but she’s still not throwing in the towel yet. “I am hopeful. Twitter sure knows how to step up…Help us find the man and child,” she writes.
It may seem like a pipe dream, but you’d be amazed by the power of the Internet. Late last year, a photographer turned to Twitter for help identifying two subjects in her photo from the New York City Marathon. In the heartwarming picture, a dad is seen cradling his son as he crosses the finish line. With a little help from the World Wide Web, the photographer got a hold of the pair and their incredible story.
