Babies don’t come with a manual, and it’s our job to help you know how to navigate unfamiliar scenarios, like what to do when baby won’t eat, sleep, stop crying—the list goes on. But we’re going to let you in on a little secret: Don’t underestimate the power of food. Take it from one hangry toddler.
Evie, a 13-month-old from Kent, England, was caught on camera wailing over a slice of pizza that was just out of her grasp. Her mom, Lacey Jones, says this behavior is totally typical from her little drama queen.
“People don’t believe me because she’s usually so innocent and lovely so I filmed her to show everyone what she’s like,” Jones tells the Daily Mail. “She was absolutely hysterical because she wasn’t allowed to eat it, it was mortifying having everyone look at us so in the end I just let her have some.”
Jones clarifies the meat-loaded pizza wasn’t intended for Evie, who had just polished off her meal of chicken nuggets and fries. And she was worried about her trying something so spicy. But Evie found a way to make it work for her.
“She had some chilli beef and a tiny bit of jalapeno which she didn’t like and ended up spitting out, but the spicy chicken and pepperoni ended up being a winner,” Jones says.
It looks like Jones won’t have a problem getting Evie to try new foods. But not all parents are so lucky. As you begin to introduce solids, you’ll want to bring a variety of options to the table. These 13 finger foods are definitely healthier than pizza—but they might not have the same magical soothing powers.
