Here's One Mom's Genius Hack to Get Her Toddlers to Clean Up
Toddlers and clean-up time typically don’t go well together. Jessica McGinty of the blog Mishmash Moments has a fool-proof method to get her kids to clean up. It’s simple: Put toys away before bedtime, or you’ll never see them again.
It may sound kind of harsh, but there’s a method behind the madness.
“Today I got the kids fcket buckets,” she jokes on Facebook. ”If they leave it laying around, it goes in their bucket. If it’s still there at bedtime, it goes in the bin, because fcket if I’m cleaning it up.”
Short, sweet and to the point, the parenting trick has struck a chord with other moms and dads on Facebook. The post has racked up more than 36,000 likes, 24,000 shares and 21,000 comments by parents who are here for this mama’s hack.
“I need to get this in our house. I swear our house will be empty by the end of the week,” one mom jokes.
“Awesome idea. I do it for my two older kids and have found it to be successful. I don’t see their toys, clothes or things on the floor,” a second parent chimes in.
“I used to do this years ago, but mine was for them to clean their room. Anything left out went in the black sack and into the bin,” another mom shares.
Some parents were quick to point out throwing toys away is a bit wasteful. Instead, they suggest hiding or donating the items to teach kids a lesson.
