Surprise! Chrissy Teigen & John Legend Welcome Baby Boy via Surrogate
Chrissy Teigen is full of surprises! Just five months after giving birth to Esti Maxine Stephens, the Teigen-Legend family has welcomed a baby boy via surrogate!
Teigen took to Instagram on June 28 to share the exciting news. In the lengthy text-based post detailing her lifelong dream of having four children and sorrow after the losing baby Jack, Teigen confirmed that she and Legend welcomed baby boy Wren Alexander Stephens on June 19.
“We want to say thank you for this incredible gift you have given us, Alexandra,” Teigen said, referencing their “most incredible, loving, compassionate surrogate,” whom Teigen shared many parts of her pregnancy with. “We ate hot pot to celebrate, watched Vanderpump rules with our growing bellies, our families blending into one for the past year,” she wrote.
“We are so happy to tell the world he is here, with a name forever connected to you, Wren Alexander Stephens. Our hearts, and our home, are officially full. And to our Jack, we know both their angel kisses are from you.”
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend Welcome Rainbow Baby Esti
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen officially welcomed a baby girl to their family January 13.
Just hours after the birth, Legend shared the happy news with fans at a private concert. He told the crowd that he and Teigen had “welcomed a little baby this morning,” and while he “didn’t get a lot of sleep,” he “feels energized” after spending “a lot of time” at the hospital. The All of Me singer went on to talk about “what a blessed day” it had been before performing the rest of his show.
Teigen first took to Instagram on January 19 to reveal her new baby girl’s name and adorable mug to friends and fans. “She’s here! Esti Maxine Stephens—the house is bustling and our family could not be happier. Daddy sheds nightly tears of joy seeing Luna and Miles so full of love,” Teigen shared in the post featuring big brother and sister Miles and Luna cradling their new little sis.
As for Mom, she’s adapting to the surprises of life postpartum while head-over-heels in love with her little girl. “I am learning you still need diapers with a c section,” she shared before adding, “We are in bliss. Thank you for all the love and well wishes—we feel it all!”

A source confirmed to People that “Chrissy and the baby are doing well” and that the couple’s two older children, son Miles Theodore, 4, and daughter Luna Simone, 6, are “so excited” about their new sibling. “They both really wanted to add another baby to the family. It’s been a long road,” the insider added, “It’s such an amazing way for them to start the new year.”
Chrissy Teigen’s Pregnancy Journey
As an expectant mom Chrissy Teigen shared all the wonders and struggles of her pregnancy with her fans. In late October, the supermodel talked all about the oh-so-relatable unpredictability that comes with eating while pregnant.
For many moms, pregnancy leads to some pretty big changes in how their body reacts to various foods. Just the smell of old favorites can suddenly become repulsive and interesting cravings can creep up out of nowhere. For Teigen, her stomach of steel seems to have lost its touch.
“I have lived the life of a spoiled rotten stomach. I could do ANYTHING to it - street meat, landlocked sushi, stuff that smelled off, 5-second rule floor food, ghost pepper contests, countless shots. And she was strong, my stomach,” Teigen shared in an Instagram post. “Now, half of a single cherry tomato can take me down for 12 hours.”
Several moms chimed in the comments about how seemingly innocent cherry tomatoes spelled disaster for them too, while others applauded Teigen’s once strong stomach with funny quips like “Landlocked sushi is always a gamble,” and “5-second floor food rule is a worldwide accepted law. You are a very strong and powerful woman.”
Despite her digestive struggles, Teigen rounded out the post by expressing how grateful she was to be welcoming her rainbow baby. “I am still so happy to be your rental home, little baby,” she wrote.
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend Share News of Their Rainbow Baby
Teigen and her husband, John Legend, shared the news of their miracle baby in the fall of 2022. The good news came after a months-long IVF journey and almost two years after the couple lost their son Jack in a devastating second-trimester miscarriage.
The model shared a photo of her growing baby bump to Instagram on August 3. Sporting a black crop top and high-waisted lace underwear, the always stylish Teigen captioned the post, “The last few years have been a blur of emotions, to say the least, but joy has filled our home and hearts again. 1 billion shots later (in the leg lately, as u can see!) we have another on the way.”
In the second part of her post, Teigen reflected on her anxiety around sharing the news after her last pregnancy loss. “Every appointment, I’ve said to myself, ‘ok if it’s healthy today I’ll announce’ but then I breathe a sigh of relief to hear a heartbeat and decide I’m just too nervous still,” Teigen shared. “I don’t think I’ll ever walk out of an appointment with more excitement than nerves but so far, everything is perfect and beautiful and I’m feeling hopeful and amazing. Ok phew it’s been very hard keeping this in for so long!”
Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Her Pregnancy Loss
The Cravings cookbook author has been open about her grief journey following her pregnancy loss. Just two months after sharing the news of her miscarriage, she shared a frank post about struggling with her still-present baby bump in December 2020. “Even though I’m no longer pregnant, every glance in the mirror reminds me of what could have been. I love being pregnant, so so much, and I’m sad I never will be again,” Teigen said.
After taking a year and a half to process the loss and enjoy time as the mother of her two oldest—daughter Luna Simone, 6, and son Miles Theodore, 4—the beloved Twitter icon announced that she was trying again in February 2022. “Hiiii. I posted about it in my stories, but I wanted to let you guys know I’m balls deep in another IVF cycle to save as many eggos as I possibly can and hopefully make some strong, healthy embryos," she shared to Instagram. Teigen added, “But also like please stop asking people, anyone, if they’re pregnant. I said this in the comments and got yelled at because the internet is wild but I’d rather be the one to tell you and not some poor woman who will look you in the eyes through tears and that’s how you finally learn.”
