Kids say the darndest things.

Twitter user Sarah Holliday recently came across an old letter her brother wrote to his mom after he missed the school bus, and she couldn’t help but share a photo of the message on social media. In the hilarious note, the boy explains an unforeseen circumstance has caused him to miss school.

“As your son, I regret to inform you that I’ve missed my means of public transportation. I know you must be on a rollercoaster of emotions right now, but rest assured, I’ve decided to stay home,” he writes.

“This was a tough decision to make while you were gone for 20 minutes,” the boy continues. “I’m probably in my bed, moping about the fact that I can’t go to school, so please don’t interrupt me. If you require any further assistance, please see the pros/cons chart on the backside.”

Here, the youngster compiles a totally unbiased list of the reasons why he should and shouldn’t stay home. We’ll let you decide which of his sides are more convincing:

Pros:

  • First day home this quarter, grades will be fine
  • Today was going to be a bad one, can’t get over my hair

Cons

  • Might become a habit (doubtful)
  • You have to call the school and tell them I’ve got polio

The photo of the letter has been shared near and far on Twitter, where it currently has more than 210k retweets, including one from actor, singer and filmmaker Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

And to answer the one question everyone is dying to know—Yes, his mom let him stay home. As Holliday points out, with an argument like that “how could she not?!”
