Bluey Is Coming to the Big Screen—Here’s What We Know
Bluey, the lovable Australian Blue Heeler pup, is gearing up for her biggest adventure yet—a full-length feature film in theaters worldwide!
Award-winning animation producer Amber Naismith, known for Happy Feet and The Lego Movie, will produce the CG-animated project. Brumm expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought ‘Bluey’ deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together.”
Alongside the movie excitement came a “trifficult” update too: Brumm announced he would step back from creating future seasons of the show. “I always said I wouldn’t keep making the show if I thought I couldn’t make any new season as good as the last. This would have been the case for me with a potential season four, so I’ve decided to take a break from my involvement in the TV series,” Brumm shared.
"In the event I can’t wrap my head around doing more seasons myself, The Sign will mark my TV finale for Bluey and I wrote it as such. To be clear, this is not an announcement about the end of the show, but it is an acknowledgment that my focus will be on the film.”
Bluey debuted its longest and last—for a while at least—episode on April 14. In The Sign the Heeler family considers relocating for Bandit’s new job, sparking uncertainty for the Heeler family as they prepare for Uncle Rad and Frisky’s wedding.
The writers and producers behind Bluey first announced they would be taking a pause before tackling season four in 2023. “We are just going to get our heads on a bit, it’s been four or five years and we’ve made 154 episodes, it is kind of unprecedented to do that back-to-back,” producer Daley Pearson explained in an interview with The Courier Mail.
While fans may miss regular visits with the Heeler family, producers assure audiences that the show is far from over. “Part of it is just not pushing to come back. We are resting; the more we ask ourselves [when work will begin on season four], the longer it will be, which is why I hesitate talking about it too much,” Pearson said.
