The Heartwarming Moment a Blind, Autistic Boy Meets 'Best Santa Ever'
The spirit of the holidays is alive in one Texas Santa. After finding out the little boy visiting him was blind and autistic, good ol’ Saint Nick went out of his way to make sure the youngster enjoyed his time with him.
“Best Santa ever,” Misty Wolf says, after her son, Matthew, experienced the special moment. The mom took to Facebook to share her sweet story, where it has already touched more than 88,000 people.
“I whispered to Santa, ‘he is blind and autistic, and is very interested in Santa.’ He said ‘say no more,’ and immediately got down on the floor to greet my little man,” the mom explains.
Santa made sure he made Matthew’s encounter with him worth his while, encouraging the child to touch the fabric on his outfit and the texture of his beard.
“He talked to Matthew for a long time. Let him feel all over him, [and] told him to pull his beard, feel his hat and talked about his red suit,” Wolf says.
Many of us don’t think twice when we read a line about Santa’s “twinkling eyes” in Christmas storybooks and poems, but for Matthew, who is blind, the description is what stands out the most.
“He asked Matthew if he wanted to feel anything, and Matthew said ‘your eyes that twinkle,’ from the poem “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” the mom explains. “So Santa let him touch all over his eyes for as long as Matthew wanted.”
Santa then carried the young boy over to the display area with reindeer, so he could discover what it felt like to touch a “real” reindeer.
The meet-up was enough to make Wolf’s holiday season complete. “It was great. My heart was full seeing Matthew so interested,” she says.
The holidays inspire everyone to be just a little bit kinder. Take this story of an overwhelmed mom who was traveling alone with her boys, when she was shown some support from a few sweet strangers.
