A lot is expected from moms before, during and after labor. Just moments after enduring the magic and immense pain of childbirth, papers must be signed, names must be picked, and the all-important birth certificate completed. With all these moving parts and, frankly plenty of labor, drugs, and hormones firing, it’s a wonder more mistakes aren’t made.

One mom recently went viral for her post-birth oops. In a TikTok posted by her daughter, Gabrielle Mayor, now 15 years old, explained how her mom’s little mistake after one really long day led to a delayed driver’s license and a hilarious discovery.

In the TikTok Mayor explains that she was born 10 days past her due date. Her mom, Ellyn Mayor, understandably ready to meet her little one, had been given quite the cocktail of medications to induce labor and speed things along. When Gabrielle finally made her entrance into the world, the labor drugs had a hilarious effect that wouldn’t reveal itself until years later.

“I was shaking so badly that my G must have looked like a B,” Ellyn told Today. “After I got the birth certificate in the mail, I immediately fixed it, but for some reason, I didn’t think about the social security card … until I took Gabby for her learner’s permit.”

It was only this year when Gabrielle tried to apply for her learner’s permit, that she realized she’s been going by the wrong name for her entire life.“The guy asks for my social security number and I give it to him. He puts it in the computer, and he’s like, ‘I’m not seeing a Gabrielle Mayor,’” she said. “Then he goes, ‘I do have a Babrielle Mayor.’”At that point, Ellyn figured out what was going on. She gasped and said, “Oh, no.” “I’m like, ‘What do you mean, ‘Oh, no?” Gabrielle said.

But Gabrielle is far from alone when it comes to being the victim of a birth certificate mishap. In the comments various people sounded off about their own incidences with misspelled names.“My name was aslhey instead of ashley for 20 years,” one person wrote. “My friend’s name is technically Bethang, not Bethany.”

As for Gabrielle, everything worked out in the end. Her social security card was corrected and she was able to get her learner’s permit a couple weeks later than planned. “I was really upset in the moment, but now it’s my fun fact,” she told Today.
