Mom's Hysterical Music Video Nails How All Parents Feel About Back-to-School
After a long summer of play dates, coordinating day camp schedules, and hearing the dreaded “I’m bored” every other day, by the time back-to-school season arrives, parents are so ready for it.
Deva, the brains behind the hilarious MyLifeSuckers videos, knows the feeling. Her latest music video is a back-to-school parody to the catchy tune of Cardi B’s “I Like It.” The mom’s original lyrics are not only super funny, but also ring true for many parents sending kids to school this month.
The video opens to a scene parents know all-too-well. Wearing a robe and a towel wrapped around her head, Deva pulls the blanket off her daughter to let her know it’s time to get, “up, up, up!”
“School has started lemme tell you, that means I get my days back,” she bursts out while she shimmies in a happy dance.
The mom then goes on to list all of the simple things she’s looking forward to, but has been deprived of this summer. The long list of pleasures is one all parents dream of on a regular basis.
“I like quiet. I like silence. I like napping. I like no whining. I like uninterrupted meals,” she sings. “I like no sibling drama. I like hearing my own thoughts. I like going to the bathroom without anyone there to watch.”
Deva explains the effects the summer has had on her, saying she’s a “saggy body, tired mommy, always yawning.”
After going grocery shopping solo, a luxury nearly impossible for parents during summer vacation, she rejoices in all the free time she has before the dismissal bell rings.
“Oh, I have six hours before everyone comes back. Shave my legs, take a shower without anyone asking for a snack.”
Ah, it’s these simple things we parents love the most. In just the first day the video posted on Facebook, it already racked up more than 2,000 shares and countless comments from parents who have so been there.
“Love it! I’ve got two more days with my glorious childerbeasts…I can do it…I can do it,” a parent jokingly commented.
One mom was able to relate, and shared the events of her glamorous back-to-school day. “Love it! Went to the bank and there was no one asking for suckers at 8:30. Workout in and shower was wonderful. In my stretchy pants, some dishes done, went out to lunch with my bestie, and then maybe some Netflix. Ahh!”
Another momma’s comment summed up the internal struggle of all moms. “Me: Why can’t my babies stay this little forever?! Also Me: Oh my god, I can’t wait for this!”
